Maria - HR Benefits Consultant
Maria is a HR Benefits Consultant with a large legal firm. It is obvious that many associates perceive work–life balance as an unattainable dream: they think it is impossible to achieve this balance without sacrificing upward mobility. Increasing employee identification with the organization (by demonstrating that work–life balance is possible) along with employee recruitment and retention have been identified as the top three top priorities of Maria’s firm in the coming fiscal year. Her company will seek a comprehensive, tailored employee health and wellness program that will provide a significant return on investment.
The health, wellness and productivity management approach
COS would work with Maria’s company in designing and developing an all-inclusive program addressing the following:
- Increasing organizational identification
- Work-life balance
- Employee recruitment
- Employee retention
This program would provide a measurable return on investment, increase workplace productivity, help control workers compensation/disability management costs, minimize absenteeism, and enhance the employees’ overall health.
The opportunities for workplace enhancement
Once the company’s needs, wants, and goals have been established, the landscape would be assessed and a program (as outlined below) tailored to help the organization maximize its potential.
- Discover, assess, and tailor program based on corporate benchmarks and goals
- Program announcement through corporate wide communication channels
- Promotion program campaign to increase awareness of program planning and scheduling
- One workplace health and wellness fair per year
- Small intro package mailed to each employees' place of residence
- A modest incentive of reduced employee healthcare contributions, in exchange for participation in bi-annual health and wellness screens and health appraisals
- Each participating employee will be delivered two health and wellness appraisals to assess, motivate, and strengthen positive changes
- All workers will be given two annual health and wellness screens
- Presentations will be targeted towards employee needs and interests related to previous assessments (cholesterol, stress management, cardiovascular health, weight management, and diabetes)
- Corporate branding of all print materials specified to your organization
- Personal health and wellness reports
- One-on-one time with a Health Professional
- Health and Wellness newsletter
- Computer workstation assessment
- Program summary reporting for management
The risks of not addressing the workplace challenges
- Attrition rates will continue to increase as a result of decreased organizational identification, leading to a cost to the firm of 315k-500k per departed associate
- Workers compensation/disability management costs will stay high
- Absenteeism will likely continue to rise, or not be minimized
