Amaka - Wellness Director
Amaka is a Wellness Director for a large engineering firm. The company recently conducted a needs analysis that determined low back injuries, employee health and wellness, and educating the workforce to be top priorities. It is in the company’s best interest to implement a health and wellness assessment/screening process, and provide a series of comprehensive educational sessions to minimize low back injuries.
The health, wellness and productivity management approach
COS would work with the company to enhance employee health, help control workers compensation/disability management costs, minimize absenteeism, and provide a measurable return on investment.
The opportunities for workplace enhancement
Once the company’s needs, wants, and goals have been established, the landscape would be assessed and a program (as outlined below) tailored to maximize the organization’s potential.
- A companywide communication and promotion program would take place
- Seamless integration of program communications with existing channels, campaigns, and events
- A modest incentive of reduced employee healthcare contributions, in exchange for participation in bi-annual health and wellness screens and health appraisals
- Bi-annual health and wellness appraisals to assess, motivate, and strengthen positive changes
- Bi-annual health screens to assess, motivate, and support positive achievements
- Personal health and wellness reports
- One-on-one time with a Health Professional
- Program summary reporting for management
- Workshop and targeted intervention programming (i.e. cardiovascular health, weight management, diabetes, cholesterol, stress management
- Small intro package mailed to each employees’ place of residence
- Health & Wellness newsletter
The risks of not addressing the workplace challenges
- Insurance premiums associated with workers compensation/disability management likely continue to be a pertinent fiscal issue
- Absenteeism will likely continue to significantly decrease company profits
- Health care costs will likely continue to soar
